2024 Winners

The Mercury Club is proud to announce the winners of this years’ Hy Truman/Donald Goldberg and Hy Truman/Rae Kleinbaum Memorial Awards. Branson Appelman is the 88th   male winner and Rose Neuman is the 37th female winner.  Branson Appelman Branson Appelman is the 88th  male winner of the Hy Truman-Donald Goldberg Memorial Award.  He has always wanted to play hockey at the highest level and because he lives in Maple Grove, Minnesota, he had to leave the state to do so.  Minnesota High School rules do not allow a player to play AAA hockey and high school hockey at the same time.  His junior high years were spent in Omaha, NE, and his high school years were spent in St. Louis, MO. playing AAA hockey.  Every school year he would leave home to play both high school and AAA hockey.  In the summer he would return home to train.  He also found time to play Lacrosse in the spring.  He was an all-state goalie, captain of his team and compiled...

2023 Winners

The Mercury Club is celebrating its 103rd anniversary and is proud to announce this year’s winners of what is believed to be the longest running Jewish scholar-athlete award in America.  Jacob Rothman from Hopkins is the 87th winner of the Hy Truman/Donald Goldberg Memorial Award and Maya Mor from Minnetonka is the 36 th  winner of the Hy Truman/Rae Kleinbaum Memorial Award.  Both will receive $1000.00 scholarships from the Marvin Wolfenson family and the Mercury Club. Jacob Rothman Rothman was a three-year letter winner on the Hopkins basketball team. The team finished with a season record of 19-9, and Rothman was awarded Honorable Mention for the Lake Conference. He has also been on the A Honor Roll for three years. Rothman will be attending Minnesota State University in Mankato. 2022 Winners

The Mercury Club is celebrating its 102 nd  anniversary and is proud to announce this year’s winners of what is believed to be the longest running Jewish scholar-athlete award in America.  William Silton from Breck is the 86th winner of the Hy Truman/Donald Goldberg Memorial Award and Macy Iyer from Edina is the 35 th  winner of the Hy Truman/Rae Kleinbaum Memorial Award.  Both will receive $1000.00 scholarships from The Marvin Wolfenson Family Foundation. William Silton Silton was a captain of the Breck baseball team. In his senior year, he had a .357 batting average with 18 RBI’s; he had 34 strikeouts in 26 innings pitched; and, he was a first team All-Conference and All-Section selection. Silton also had a very successful junior year where he registered the most wins in the IMAC conference. William was a 3-year letter winner. He plans to play baseball next year at St. Olaf College. The Mercury Club is proud to announce the winners of this years’ Hy Truman/Donald Goldberg and Hy Truman/Rae Kleinbaum Memorial Awards. Jacob T Silverman is the 85th   male winner and Josie Fieldman is the 34th female winner. Silverman graduated from Breck School and Fieldman graduated from Hopkins High School. Jacob T Silverman Jacob was a First Team All-State soccer player as well as a Honorable Mention All Conference hockey player. Jacob kept very busy in his high school career, both as a two-sport athlete and being involved with multiple extracurricular activities, including volunteer groups and Breck's chess club, where he competed at the national level. Jacob will be attending USC next year and intends to continue playing club soccer. Josie Fieldman Josie was a team captain and a First Team All-State soccer player. 2020 marks the 100 Year Anniversary of the Mercury Club! While we aren't able to celebrate in person this year, know that we are all celebrating together in spirit, and look forward to marking this occasion and recognizing 2020 and 2021 winners together next year. Without further ado, we are proud to announce the winners of this year's Hy Truman/Donald Goldberg and Hy Truman/Rae Kleinbaum Memorial Awards: Ali Fine   is the Club's 33rd Female Winner. Ali graduated from Blake High School this spring and will be attending the University of Wisconsin in the fall, where she will be playing college soccer. 2020 Candidate Selection/Banquet

Hello everyone, We hope you and yours are safe and well. The Mercury Club Selection Committee is in the process of reviewing applications. While our deadline was April 15, please contact Steve Waldman  if you feel there is a candidate we might have missed that we should still consider. Typically our banquet is held in the last weekend of June. Due to the current environment, it is highly unlikely we will be hosting the banquet during this timeframe. We will keep everyone updated with our decision about whether to postpone or cancel this year's banquet. Again, Steve will be your primary point of contact for any questions. 2019 Winners

The Mercury Club is proud to announce the winners of this years’ Hy Truman/Donald Goldberg and Hy Truman/Rae Kleinbaum Memorial Awards. Tyler Schmidt is the 83 rd  male winner and Stephanie Garvis is the 32 nd  female winner. Both Schmidt and Garvis recently graduated from Wayzata High School. Tyler Schmidt Schmidt is an outstanding gymnast. He is a four-time Junior Olympic National Meet Qualifier, a member of the Region 4 Team in 2019 and he competed in the 2017 Macabbi Games as a member of Team USA for men’s gymnastics. Just last month, he finished 3 rd  All Around in the nation for ages 18, level 10.  He will be attending the University of Illinois where he will continue to compete in gymnastics. In the classroom, Tyler had a 3.55 GPA and has been a USGA Academic All-American 2015-2019. He was also a member of DECA, a competitive school business club.
